It’s common for social media sites to send email notifications to their users’ inbox or on the site itself. This may be to advise a user about the different activities they have done, or to let them know what his or her connections on the site are up to.
The frequency of these notifications, however, depends on what’s been set as default on a user’s account and on the activities the user and his or her connections have been doing.
It can be annoying, though, to be receiving so many notifications on every activity you do on your favorite social networking sites. Your inbox can get clogged very quickly, particularly if you hang out on the site several hours every day.
On Google+, users have the ability to turn off notifications depending on their activity.
Whatever you do on the site, you will normally get a notification to your email address linked to your Google+ account.
Over time, though, your inbox can get full and it quickly becomes an onerous task to have to go through your emails.
If this rings true for you, the best thing to do, then, is to stop these notifications via the account settings page.
How to turn off Google Plus notifications
To go to your settings, click the down arrow on the top right beside the wheel and under your thumbnail profile photo on your home page. When the drop down menu appears, click Settings.
On your Google+ Account Settings page, scroll down and go to the Receive notifications section.
By default, all notifications are checked but you can adjust according to your preference.
You can then uncheck the boxes beside the appropriate notifications which you no longer wish to receive moving forward.
So for posts, you can stop Google+ from sending you emails whenever someone mentions you, shares a post with you directly and comments on your post.
For circles, you may not like to receive notifications every time someone adds you to their circles.
For photos, you can choose to stop notifications when someone tags you in a photo or tags your photos, comments on a photo after your comment or comments on photos you tag or you’re tagged in.
How to Mute a Google Plus Post
Alternatively, you can take another step through the posts on your home page.
If you want to stop notifications from specific posts, you can mute them from your Google+ profile.
Simply click on the small down arrow on the top right of a post.
In the drop down menu that shows next, click Mute this post and you will no longer receive notifications on whatever activities that occur in that particular post.
So those are the easy steps you need to follow to avoid a barrage of notifications on Google+.
