Since it was first used in Twitter, hashtags have been very effective in helping drive engagement with followers and gain new potential customers. Today, various social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook allow them to help users including business owners improve their reach and engagement.

Here are some ways you can use the hashtags to achieve your business goals on the popular social networking sites.

Keep Your Brand in Mind

When using hashtags, do it in such a way that it is in line with your brand and the message that you want to convey to your target audience. You can use the tag line of your business or create one that’s still in line with it.

Encourage followers to use your hashtag and thank those who have used it. You can retweet their hashtags on Twitter or reply to their posts on other social media sites.

Choose Appropriate Hashtags

When creating a hashtag, make sure to consider the potential of it being used by other people in a different or negative context. There had been instances in the past when hashtags created by large companies were used negatively notably in their followers’ complaints.

Use Your Hashtag Offline

Apart from promoting your hashtag on social networking sites and on your main website, you can also use it offline. Feel free to use it your traditional media campaigns whether it’s in email, print ads and television.

Business owners who have brick and mortar shops can also display their hashtag in their point of sale, flyers and even in their receipts.

Vary Your Hashtags

When planning for your hashtags whether for your business branding or for your social media campaigns, make several of them as much as possible. Keep in mind that trends change over time and you may need to change hashtags every now and then to retain the interest of your fans and followers. You may, however, keep the core hashtags for your business to be consistent on your social sites.

In your social media conversations, it is a must to use different hashtags on a regular basis. This way, your followers will always look forward to the next one you’re going to use.

Hashtags are great marketing tools that you can use in your business onward and very useful in maintaining your branding.
