How to Use Instagram to Promote Your Business

Instagram users now number 700 million as of April 2017 and this figure continues to rise. This means that the top photo-sharing platform can be a powerful marketing tool that businesses should certainly take advantage of. With 40 billion photos shared on the site, so far, it is fitting for business owners to establish a presence on the platform.

Since its founding seven years ago, Instagram has undergone numerous changes and has introduced new features. Today, users can post not only photos but also short videos.

It should be noted, though, that photos can be shared only using the Instagram mobile app. The desktop version does not support photo uploading but can be used to edit one’s profile, search for people to follow and check the status of your photos.

Sharing photos and videos of your products or services is a great way to update your followers and attract more people who are using Instagram. Other images may be used as long as they’re related to your business and helpful to your target audience.

Upload Photos

When uploading photos on Instagram, users have several options. They can take a photo using the app or choose one from the gallery on their smartphone or tablet. Filters are available if you want to create a certain effect for your image. It is possible to crop a photo or change the exposure.

Post Videos

When uploading videos, the same choices for uploading photos are available – record a video using your device or upload one from your gallery. Videos can be edited such as by shortening its length or composing a montage using several videos. Each video is limited only to one minute.

Videos of your events or testimonials from customers are most ideal to share on Instagram. They will let your followers know that you have a genuine business and are serious in serving their needs.


Don’t forget to include hashtags when posting your photos and videos. Keep in mind these hashtags help in making your business easily searchable on Instagram. They should be added after the caption of your image or video.
