Snapchat is already five years old yet mostly the young ones are using it. Some adults find the app not very user-friendly and confusing. However if you get to explore the app, you will eventually discover that it’s very simple to use.

Snapchat is considered one of the most popular messaging platforms today and as its name suggests, it also lets users take photos which they can share with friends. It may have earned a negative reputation in its earlier stage due to its confusing navigation but once you start using the app, it will be a fun experience.

To start using Snapchat, one needs to register an account on the site. The next step is to get to know its five main screens first. These are the primary camera and the four others that you get when swiping in a specific direction.

  • Swipe Up – You will be directed to the profile screen.
  • Swipe Down – You will get to the memories area where you can save your snaps.
  • Swipe Left – You will be shown the screen with your messages.
  • Swipe Right – You will be shown the 24-hour stories from your friends.

Take and Send Photos

The main screen features a simple camera that’s easy to use. Simply tap the white circle to take a photo. To take a video, just tap and hold the same circle. Photos can be modified through the filters available. Text, drawings and stickers can also be added. The filter menu will show up by tapping anywhere before you take a picture.

To send photos, tap on the blue arrow which will direct you to your list of friends. Once there, you can then choose the people who you want to see your snapshots and then hit the blue send button located on the bottom.

To save images, just tap the download arrow on the bottom left. Photos are normally saved on your phone’s camera roll or on Snapchat’s cloud Memories service.

Send Messages

On Snapchat, users can send text, photos and videos. The messages screen can be accessed by swiping left.

To know what kind of message to send, check the icon next to your contact’s name. Blue is for text, red is for picture and purple for video . If you want to send a text message, swipe left on your contact’s name or you can simply press the white message bubble icon on the top right corner.

Manage Profile

To go to your profile, swipe up and there you will be able to add friends, browse your friend list and accept or deny new friend requests. The setting icon is also there on the top right.

Snapchat continues to get updated similar to other social networking sites hence, more new features are being added from time to time. But once you know the basics, you will find it easy to use the app.
