Instagram is one of the most popular photo sharing platforms today and one that’s being embraced by businesses that want to reach out to a wider audience particularly the younger generation. But gaining followers on the site is not achieved overnight. A user needs to make an effort consistently to be able to attract people and potential customers.

When it comes to gaining followers on Instagram, going the organic way is recommended instead of doing the spammy way which includes buying bulk followers and using bots. Here are some simple steps to take to attract people to your account the natural way and being consistent is very important.

Share engaging content

Instagram is a popular platform used by people to showcase their best photos and as such, you need to post top quality images. Along with your photos, do add an interesting caption that will catch people’s attention. Make sure, though, that you include the most compelling information in the first part so it can be seen in the users’ feed. You may include a question in your caption to encourage people to comment on your post.

Captions can be longer than just one sentence and it would be best if you could tell a story about the image you’re posting. With stories, you can promote engagement with your community and encourage more shares of your posts.

Use relevant hashtags

Hashtags are a must in Instagram. They are effective in allowing people to discover you and your business. With hashtags, your posts are shown to people who may not be following you.

When using hashtags, you have a choice between using the popular ones or creating your own. They have to be closely related to your business, your product or service or even the industry you belong to. If you want to create your own hashtag, keep in mind to focus on your market niche.

An important point here is to avoid using too many hashtags. Doing so will only distract your audience.

Post at the right time

In addition to being consistent when posting on Instagram, you also need to post your photos at the right time. Research has shown that companies normally post during working hours. However, if your target audience are the professionals, you should be posting either in the morning before they go to work, at lunchtime or after work. On the other hand if your target audience are the stay-at-home parents, you can post during the morning.

The best way to find out the best time to post on Instagram is to test posting photos at different times of the day. You will know then the right time to post through the number of likes, comments and followers you have gained on those specific posts. Make sure to adjust accordingly based on the results of your test.

Tag people and location

Tagging people in your caption or through the tagging functionality is another way of gaining followers. When people are tagged, they normally get a notification which will prompt them to check out your post or even share them with their own following.

For those with businesses in a specific location, you can tag your photo with that location. Users can actually click on the location which will then allow them to see photos posted from your store or office. This helps in exposing your business to a wider audience.
