Hashtags have always been an important part of Instagram. They provide many benefits to users. They’re helpful in letting people find the topics they desire and being found on your particular niche. For businesses, they can increase your reach and even connect you to potential customers.

The latest update is that apart from following people, Instagram now allows its users to follow hashtags. This is a great way to be able to reach your target market particularly those who may not be aware of you yet or your business.

For marketing purposes, a good way to follow hashtags is to find popular ones that relates to your business. You can then use them as often as you want on your Instagram posts.

Here are more ways you can use hashtags for your business to attract more followers.

Use Multiple Location Hashtags

One simple step you can take is to use hashtags that mention your location. This is an effective strategy in connecting with your community. Once Instagram users find you, they will surely keep you in mind when searching for local updates and events.

What you can do is use different hashtags that use the location of your business. If you’re in Melbourne, for example, and you’re into real estate, you can use #melbourne, #melbournerealestate, #melbournehomes, #ilovemelbourne and #melbourneauctions. Ideally, you can use three different location-based hashtags in your every post to attract a variety of people in your target market.

Use Fun and Interesting Hashtags

If your brand permits, you can also use fun hashtags to create more impact to your Instagram posts. These may not be the ones your audience normally use in searching for relevant posts but eventually, they will get used to it and it will improve engagement.

Make your hashtags interesting and fun and they can be longer than three words. As an example if you’re in the business of creating desserts, you can use #sweettreats, #treatyourself, #yummydessertsyoucantgetover and #dessertstoloveforever.

Use Your Own Branded Hashtags

Creating your own hashtag can help make other people aware of your business. Keep in mind that you also need to have your own hashtag that will make people easily recall your business. It will give you your own identity.

As an example, you can use #SocialPropertySelling or #SavvyWebWomen along with other related hashtags that point to your business. Once your target market starts using them, you can then easily keep track of their content and benefit from it.
